-Abstract-
The Field of coherent control of quantum systems has been growing steadily owing to a wide variety of applications that involve quantum-mechanical light-matter interaction. After reviewing various coherent control methods, we consider several applications of control in quantum information processing. We discuss how adiabatic passage scheme can be applied to design a universal set of quantum gates. The scheme provides a possibility to utilize strong pulses, while keeping all advantages of Rabi solution regime. To be more precise, we address a set of geometric quantum gates, which are solely based on the geometric phase that a qubit acquires during cyclic evolution in the parameter space. These gates are robust with respect to the external noise, since they do not depend on the dynamical phase. Implementation of a two-qubit CNOT gate based on the proposed approach is also discussed.
