-Abstract-
One of the most unique aspects of synthetic chemistry is its capacity to create and manipulate molecules that are crucial to fundamental science and human health. This capacity has been constantly increased through the development of new reactions with unprecedented mechanisms as well as via the discovery of catalysts and reagents of improved performance.
Transition metal-based catalysts have been the main source of new reaction development. However, many transition metal-catalyzed reactions, despite their prowess, suffer from regio- and stereochemical problems. In light of expanding the scope of these reactions such as Alder ene reaction and allylic transposition, we have been exploring new ways of controlling their regio- and stereoselectivity. In this presentation, the recent research progress in the ruthenium-catalyzed Z-selective Alder ene reaction and the rhenium-catalyzed allylic transposition will be discussed in the context of their application to the total synthesis of dactylolide and panaxytriol.
