-Abstract-
Several new chiral macrocyclic compounds have been discovered that posses unique properties and have great potential as chiral selectors. One is an all carbohydrate cyclofructan that could challenge the supremacy of cyclodextrims as the selector of choice in gas chromatography and capillary electrophoresis as well as the linear carbohydrates in HPLC. Other new peptide/phenolic types of macrocycles will have a significant impact in liquid-based enantiomeric separations. Both types of macrocycles can be used for the single molecule stochastic sensing of enantiomers. Both the action of the chiral selectors and their use as stochastic sensors will be described and discussed.
